14th November - the 27th annual Cheltenham Countryside Race Day

Tuesday, 7 October 2014

The 27th annual Cheltenham Countryside Race Day, an iconic event in our year, will once again kick off the three day Open meeting. Cheltenham Countryside Race Day is the “start of term” for the National Hunt season and this year is in aid of the Countryside Alliance and the County Air Ambulance HELP Appeal. Over the years the crowds have slowly risen and, as has often been said, the day now resembles the Festival in the ‘old days’. The country fair that is so much a part of the day will commence with the ever popular stallion parade between 11 and 11:30am. Gundog displays will take place in the paddock before racing, and the local hunt will parade on the course during the afternoon.

8 November - Meeting with Hampshire PCC

Saturday, 8 November 2014

Hampshire Constabulary intends to reorganise the police coverage of Upton Grey & The Candovers Beat with effect April 2015. It will have a direct effect on neighbourhood policing and undoubtedly will lead to an increase in criminal activity.
The 10 Parish Councils within the Beat area are most concerned by this retrograde decision and have made direct representation to Simon Hayes, Hampshire Police & Crime Commissioner. As a result he has agreed to attend a Public Meeting to hear the communities' concerns at 10am on Saturday 8 November at Herriard Royal British Legion Hall, Herriard RG25 2PG. He will be accompanied by a senior Police Officer, whose details are still to be confirmed.
This is an opportunity to hear the rationale for the reorganisation and make your feelings known.
