Falconry for Schools brings birds of prey into the classroom at Milverton Primary

Pupils from Milverton Primary in Taunton came face to face with owls, falcons and hawks when Falconry for Schools instructor Sharon Bindon brought her birds into the classroom on Friday (9 November).

Year 4 pupils Amber Green and Sebastian Tarry wrote this report of their day:

"Today, the whole school started the day with an assembly about birds of prey. We had a visitor called Sharon and she brought in five of her special 'family' members!

"The type of family members were; a barn owl (Rocky), a little owl (Click), an American kestrel (Star), a Harris hawk (Sky) and a goshawk (Spike).

"First we did a workshop and she talked about each bird and even let us stroke Rocky! Then we decided on our favourite bird of prey and we had to do a profile about it.

"We were really busy and then we had to use our classification knowledge to sort out lots of birds into four groups which were; hawks, falcons, owls and others.

"Later on we learnt about the anatomy of the birds of prey. We had a brilliant, fantastic, fun day and we can't wait to see Sharon in two weeks' time!!"

Sharon will return to Milverton School on 23 November for another session.
