Making the rural vote count

Following months of Brexit deadlock we received clarification earlier this week that there will be a General Election on 12th December.

There is no denying that we are facing the most serious threat to country sports for 20 years with Labour's policies creating an equal threat to both hunting and shooting for the first time. Trail hunting would become impossible under Labour's Animal Welfare policy which pledges to bring forward further legislation on hunting.

Not content with a commitment to ban hunting again, it is also Labour policy to consider banning grouse shooting and to bring in restrictions on game farming. Beyond even that, it is committed to looking at horse and greyhound racing as well.

It is quite clear that Labour's plans would essentially close the door of hope on any potential amendments to the Hunting Act and potentially change the way of life for many of those who enjoy country pursuits.

The Countryside Alliance will be seeking commitments from candidates on the 'Rural Manifesto' incorporating a range of issues including hunting and wildlife management. There will be a tool on our website which will allow our supporters to see whether candidates in their constituencies have pledged their support and to ask them to respond if they have not already.

We will make clear our views on the most pressing issues facing our countryside in order to equip you will the information you need when it comes to the time for you to cast your vote.
