The Countryside Alliance and the Fishing for Schools programme are aware of the recent statement issued by the Angling Trust regarding a serious allegation connected to the sport.

While we are not directly involved in the matter, we believe it is vitally important to reaffirm our position on safeguarding and the welfare of everyone who takes part in angling and other countryside activities. Safety, respect and integrity are at the very heart of our work with schools, communities and partner organisations.

Fishing for Schools provides thousands of young people, including those with additional needs, with positive, structured and well-supervised opportunities to experience angling. All our coaches are subject to rigorous safeguarding training and checks, and our programme follows clear codes of conduct to ensure a safe and supportive environment.

We will continue to work with national bodies, schools and local communities to uphold the highest standards and to promote angling as a safe, inclusive and rewarding pursuit for all.
