Fishing for Schools, the nationally acclaimed leader in young people’s angling education, the countryside and conservation, is delighted to announce that the current Wales Youth Fly Fishing team captain, Jacob Lewis, will be attending a reception in the House of Commons. At the reception, which will take place on Tuesday 14 October, Jacob will also be helping to give awards to young people who will be representing their schools nationwide.

The reception celebrates young people from an entire cross section of schools from both England and Wales who have taken part in this year’s Fishing for Schools programme; a purpose designed suite of sessions which takes young people - some with profound difficulties in coping with the conventional school programme - into a world of angling. Our sessions also highlight the natural world and the importance of persevering the environments where the activities takes place.

On his new role, and attending the Westminster reception, Jacob Lewis said:

I feel honoured and extremely proud to have been asked to be an ambassador for Fishing for Schools, and also being invited to attend the reception at the House of Commons. I am looking forward to meeting some fellow young anglers.

Fly fishing has been my passion from a very early age. It has taught me patience, resilience and perseverance. It has also made me enjoy and respect nature and the countryside.

I would love to inspire more young people to try the sport. For me it is an escape from the pressure of school and exams and I would like to see more people benefit from it.”

Fishing for Schools Director, Charles Jardine applauds the addition of Jacob, saying:

“Having a young fisher the calibre of Jacob as part of Fishing for Schools is incredibly uplifting for all of us. Knowing him as my captain when managing the Welsh Youth team, I know not only of his absolute passion for the sport but the compassion and enthusiasm he has for both his teammates, and encouraging young people into the sport. To have him with Fishing for Schools and assist with prize giving is an absolute dream come true. I know he will inspire others.”
