The final term of the school year is always a hectic one for our coaching team — and this year has been no exception.
Our Fishing for Schools coaches have been busy across the country, working with young people of all ages and abilities. Along the way, they’ve helped pupils build confidence, develop new skills, and discover the simple joy that comes from time spent outdoors — and by the water.
So far this year, we have reached over 30 schools across 14 counties — delivering over 100 sessions and creating lasting memories for the young people involved.
In Kent, our coaching team has supported pupils in Dover, Maidstone, Gravesend, Ramsgate and Canterbury — helping develop angling skills and sparking what we hope will be a lifelong interest in the sport. A standout moment came during our sessions with St Catherine’s Catholic School for Girls in Bexleyheath. We were fortunate to use the facilities at Sutton at Hone, thanks to the support of Dartford and District Angling & Preservation Society. It’s fair to say it was one of the highlights of the term — and we’re incredibly grateful to all those who help make this work possible.
Over in Cambridgeshire, Spring Common Academy pupils threw themselves into the programme. Across four sessions, twelve students grew their communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills — and landed 128 fish during their final outing! A brilliant achievement.
Meanwhile, in Bradford, pupils at Horton Park Primary— one of our newest Fishing for Schools partners — are acing their sessions. From getting set up safely at the peg to mastering the art of accurate feeding, they’ve made excellent progress, with one final session still to come.
While summer offers a moment to take stock and look ahead, it’s far from quiet. We’re using this time to finalise plans for autumn delivery in Wales, Dorset and Norfolk — and we are also preparing to deliver ‘one-off’ sessions over the summer holidays, including work with Choice Support, a day centre for adults with autism and learning difficulties in Kent.
A huge thank you to all the schools, coaches and supporters who continue to make Fishing for Schools such a success.
