Trusted Game, the gamebird sector’s assurance scheme, has announced a new three-tier benchmarking system to support members in delivering best practice.
With input from leading shooting and conservation organisations, the new Gold, Silver and Bronze awards are designed to recognise, benchmark and reward best practice in gamebird rearing and releasing.
Trusted Game is bespoke to the game sector and prides itself on being evidence-led. Basic membership is built around an audit of standards, which includes key legal requirements for the rearing and releasing of gamebirds.
In line with its founding mantra that ‘everyone must have the chance to improve’, the new tiers recognise shoots and game farmers for achievements in maintaining the highest standards.
The new scoring system was created by vets with specialist knowledge and is designed to help game farms and shoots identify where they might achieve marginal gains, by benchmarking performance against established best practice in the sector.
The auditing scheme has already been proven to work. Frank Boddy from the Mountgarret shoot said:
“Having previously been with other audit schemes we found that Trusted Game was actually more stringent, relevant and practical. The audit also provided detailed veterinary advice which helped to motivate staff and drive improvements. We followed this advice and had the best rearing season we have ever had.”
