The Countryside Alliance has an exciting programme planned for the political party conference season this Autumn. The Alliance will welcome the Secretary of State for Defra, Shadow Secretary of State for Defra, Ministers, MPs, peers and industry experts to our events at the Conservative and Labour Party conferences.

If you are attending conference, we do hope that you will be able to join us at what will undoubtedly prove to be fascinating discussions ranging from Labour’s rural strategy to the Government’s Action Plan for Animal Welfare. We are also holding a joint drinks reception with the Conservative Rural Forum.

The details of our events are below:

Labour Party Conference (25-29 September)

The Elephant in the Countryside
Our President, Baroness Mallalieu QC, will chair a roundtable discussion between Shadow Secretary of State, Luke Pollard MP, Luke Raikes of the Fabian Society and Lord Glasman of Blue Labour.

The discussion will focus on Labour’s rural problem, as exposed by the Countryside Alliance in its report last year, The Elephant in the Countryside: Labour’s Rural Problem.  In 2019 Labour won 17 of 199 rural seats, if it is ever to be in government again it needs to win back the rural vote. To win it back, Labour must make it clear why it is the best party for the countryside. The Shadow Secretary of State, Luke Pollard MP, will outline how Labour plans to win back the rural electorate. We will also hear from the Fabian Society and Blue Labour about what else the Party can do to win those crucial rural seats.
