The Queen's Speech and the countryside

Written by Countryside Alliance | 21 June 2017

The State Opening of Parliament took place on Wednesday 21st June, on the hottest day of the year, and the Queen's Speech set out the Government's legislative programme for the next two years. Brexit was front and centre of the speech which included proposals for new bills on agriculture, fisheries and trade which will establish new, domestic policies in key areas. The bill on agriculture aims to "ensure that the United Kingdom makes a success of Brexit by establishing new national policies on agriculture". The bill is yet to be drafted and we will play our part in helping to shape the policies that should be included to ensure we have an agricultural policy that is fit for purpose. Our briefing note on the Queen's Speech debate in Parliament is available here.
