Belvoir Hunt take part in local Countryside Clean-up

The Belvoir Hunt recently took part in a litter-pick operation in and around their local community, as part of a nationwide campaign to tackle the blight of rubbish being dumped in the countryside.

The Belvoir Hunt Countryside Clean-up task force, which comprised of hunt staff and supporters, took place in early March before Government guidance was issued to remain at home to avoid the spread of Covid-19.

The Hunt focused on a number of well-known local hot-spots, with a large team targeting litter in rural lanes around Waltham on the Wolds in Leicestershire, while other teams were dispersed around rural Lincolnshire.

"We had a very successful morning collecting litter, rummaging around in ditches and making a difference in our local area, however, we were quite staggered at the amount of rubbish that had been discarded by motorists," a spokesperson for the Belvoir Hunt told the Countryside Alliance.

"The local borough councils were very supportive and provided us with the necessary equipment including hi-viz tabards, gloves and litter pickers."

Polly Portwin said: "Although we've officially postponed our Countryside Clean-up scheduled for the weekend of 28th-29th March, due to the Covid-19 outbreak, it is excellent to see that the Belvoir Hunt team managed to get in early, doing their part to keep their local community clean. We look forward to rescheduling the Countryside Clean-up at a later date. In the meantime, please stay safe"
