Lords celebrate Great British Game Week

Senior members of the House of Lords gathered on Wednesday 21 November for a special lunch hosted by Countryside Alliance Deputy Chairman, Lord Mancroft, to discuss shooting and the game industry.

The lunch was part of a series of events organised by the Countryside Alliance to celebrate Great British Game Week and brought together Lords from across the House with an interest in shooting and the food industry. Those in attendance included former Ministers Lord Robathan and Lord Inglewood, the Duke of Montrose, and one of the newest Members of the House, Lord Bethell.

Tom Adams, Managing Director of the British Game Alliance, also attended the event and provided an update on the game market and the work of his organisation in promoting game meat at home and abroad.

A special game menu was prepared for the lunch in the House of Lords Dining Room, including a main course of hot game terrine with venison loin. Dishes incorporating game have been on offer in the Lords restaurants throughout Great British Game Week.

Lord Mancroft commented: "I was delighted to be joined by colleagues from across the House to celebrate Great British Game Week and to have the opportunity to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the game market. Game is a fantastic meat and it is an important part of the rural economy in many areas, so it is right that we celebrate it."

Tom Adams commented: "This was an important opportunity to brief members of the House of Lords on the work of the British Game Alliance. The Lords clearly understood the importance of our work as the official marketing board for game meat and in delivering robust self-assurance for shoots and game producers. I look forward to working with many of them in the future."
