Gamekeeping conference on "what the future holds"

The Keeper's Choice Game & Countryside Conference – "What the Future Holds" - was held in Witney this week, reports Jack Knott of our shooting campaign, who attended the event. "There were well over 100 gamekeepers and people involved with shooting at the interesting and lively conference. The summary from all sides of the shooting industry was 'the future is bright', along the lines of what the Value of Shooting report showed us last year. Yet, within each sector there are pitfalls that have the potential to tarnish the industry. Richard Townsend, soon to be of Gourmet Game, spoke extensively about the impact of poor game handling and the issue of 'Fred in his Shed' dealing game with no licence and in terrible conditions. Charles Nodder of the National Gamekeeper's Organisation discussed recent bad shooting publicity involving illegal traps and persecution that must not be tolerated. In conclusion, the message was that if we can work together as an industry to educate and promote best practice, our organisations, businesses and hobbies can flourish and grow."
