Much Wenlock girl to run half-marathon in memory of brother

SHROPSHIRE girl Jess Jones, whose family farms in Brockton, Much Wenlock is tackling her first half-marathon on Sunday, in memory of her 18-year-old brother Hugh, who died in a farming accident in December 2011.

Jess, 26, who currently lives in Rhossili on the Gower Penninsula in Wales with her fiance, will run the Cardiff half-marathon on 5 October - along with a group of friends and family who are all originally from Shropshire. They will run in support of The Countryside Alliance Foundation (TCAF), the charity arm of the membership organisation for those who live and work in the countryside, the Countryside Alliance.

Jess said: "Hugh was a real country boy who loved hunting and shooting so it seemed appropriate to choose TCAF as our charity. We have already smashed our fundraising total so other people must agree with us!

"I've never run this far before so it could be very interesting but we are all determined to do the best we can."

The team – made up of Jess's cousins Clare Cooper, Lucy Jones, Ginny and Emma Lewis and Clare's husband David Cooper, plus their friends Fiona Sedgley and Hayley Hyde have raised £2,250 and counting, exceeding their £2,000 target.
