Give in Memory

Giving in memory is a wonderful way to celebrate the life of someone you loved and to honour their love of the countryside.

Friends and relatives sometimes choose to support the Countryside Alliance in this way by inviting donations at a funeral or memorial service. We are very grateful to those who support our work in this way.

If you have any questions about giving in memory, we are here to help. Please contact us at: inmemory@ca-foundation.org

How does it work?
  1. Click the link on our website or in your member email.

  2. Create your will online in around 15 minutes.

  3. Farewill’s experts check your will for legal accuracy.

  4. Print and sign your will with two witnesses to make it legally binding.

You can also choose Farewill’s optional telephone service if you prefer to speak with someone directly.

How long does it take?
Most people finish their will in 15–30 minutes, and you can pause and return at any time.
What do I need before I start?

Have the following ready:

  • Names and addresses of beneficiaries and executors

  • Details of your assets and property

  • Instructions for any specific gifts or charities

  • Guardian choices (if you have children under 18)

Is the service really free?

Is the will legally valid?
Yes. Farewill’s wills are valid across England and Wales once properly signed and witnessed. Farewill is regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

Leaving a Gift to the Countryside Alliance

Do I have to leave a gift to the Countryside Alliance?
No. There’s no obligation to include a gift, but many members choose to do so as a way to protect the countryside they love.
What types of gifts can I leave?

You can choose to leave:

  • A percentage of your estate (residuary gift)

  • A fixed sum of money (pecuniary gift)

  • A specific item or asset (such as artwork or equipment)

Why should I consider leaving a gift?
Legacy gifts help safeguard rural communities, protect wildlife management, and defend the country way of life. Every gift, no matter the size, makes a lasting impact.
Can I tell you if I’ve left a gift?
Yes please. Letting us know helps us plan for the future and means we can thank you personally. You can email legacies@ca-foundation.org to share this confidentially.
Can I leave gifts to multiple charities?
Yes. Farewill’s system allows you to easily divide your estate between several charities or individuals.
Will my family still be provided for if I leave a gift?
Absolutely. You can prioritise your loved ones first and then leave a small percentage or gift to the Countryside Alliance.
How will my gift be used?
Legacy gifts support vital work protecting rural communities, promoting sustainable countryside management, and defending traditional country pursuits for generations to come.
Can I remain anonymous?
Yes. If you prefer not to be recognised publicly, we will always honour your privacy.
Can I change my mind later?
Yes. You can amend your will at any time if your circumstances or wishes change.
Will my gift be exempt from Inheritance Tax?
Yes. Gifts to registered charities like the Countryside Alliance Foundation are exempt from Inheritance Tax, and in some cases leaving 10% or more of your estate to charity can reduce the tax rate on the remainder of your estate.
Do I need a solicitor to leave a gift?
Not necessarily. The Farewill service is fully valid for most estates, but if your financial affairs are complex, it’s sensible to seek advice from a solicitor or tax specialist.
Can I leave a gift in memory of someone?
Yes. Many members choose to leave a gift in memory of a loved one, friend, or family member who shared their love of the countryside. It’s a special way to honour their memory and values.
How does my gift make a difference to the countryside?
Your gift helps fund the vital work that protects rural life for generations to come. Legacy donations support everything from campaigning for fair rural policies, to education programmes like Fishing for Schools, to wildlife management, conservation, and rural access initiatives. Every pound helps strengthen our voice for the countryside.
Will my gift stay within countryside or conservation work?
Yes. Gifts left to the Countryside Alliance are used solely for projects and programmes that uphold our charitable and countryside objectives. This includes advocacy for rural communities, education and training opportunities for young people, and preserving the traditions, skills, and environment that define country life.
Can I choose which area of work my gift supports?

Yes. If you wish, you can tell us how you would like your gift to be used, for example, to support education initiatives such as Fishing for Schools, rural campaigning, or countryside conservation and access projects. We will always do our best to honour your wishes and ensure your legacy reflects your values.

However, we generally encourage unrestricted gifts, as these allow us to direct funds where they are most urgently needed across the organisation. Unrestricted support strengthens our overall impact, ensuring we can respond quickly to emerging political challenges, fund essential programmes, and invest in the long-term future of rural communities.

That said, your wish is your wish, and if you would like your gift to benefit a specific area, we will make every effort to respect that intention while using it effectively within our charitable aims.
