Christmas all wrapped up

We introduce you to this year’s Christmas card collection which features designs by artists who may already be familiar to you as well as some new ones. Support the work of the Countryside Alliance and brighten up someone’s day with a beautiful card or gift.

We have also reproduced a fun illustration which encompasses many traditional rural pursuits which originally featured in the British Field Sports Society’s collection in 1954. 

1. Charles Church

Charles Church is an internationally renowned painter of horses, landscapes and country life who has been described by HM The King as a remarkable artist with a “unique sensitivity and profound understanding of his subject matter.” Charles’ career has grown from a 15-year old who loved painting horses into one of the most sought-after equestrian painters worldwide. ‘Winter Exercise’ was inspired by following the South Dorset hounds on foot on a February morning after a heavy fall of snow overnight. Charles explains: “I love the creamy colour of hounds when set against the brightness of snow.” Order online here.

2. Zoe Carmichael

This is Zoë’s sixth exclusive design for the Countryside Alliance which was inspired by the Coronation of King Charles III. Zoë burst onto the equine and animal arts scene after her remarkable talent for sculpture was discovered during a trip to Italy in 2021. Of her latest design 'The Test Drive', Zoe says: “This year we have seen Britain pull out of the stops for pomp and pageantry across the country so it seemed very apt to pull out all the stops for this year’s card. How brilliant to soar into the New Year with a new King and gleaming Windsor Greys!” Order online here.

3. Camilla Gardner

'Christmas Kisses' is the fourth design of Camilla’s which has featured in our collection, following on from ‘Mr & Mrs Pheasant’ in 2022, and a stag and a partridge in previous years. Camilla explained to us that she loves drawing birds due to their pleasing shapes and the patterns of their feathers. “The first set of birds I sold were in my degree show many years ago and went to a Hampshire hospital for the children’s ward.” Order online here.

4. Annabel Pope

Annabel Pope is best known for her African and British wildlife painting. She has worked with a variety of charities to raise money for animal conservation, including Tusk, Lewa and Borana conservancies. She paints in oil, watercolour and acrylic and has had recent solo exhibitions at The Osborne Gallery and has also exhibited at the Rountree Tryon Gallery. Brought up on a farm in Norfolk but now living in Oxfordshire, Annabel sees hares on a daily basis. She always tries to capture their character, energy and form in motion. This painting titled 'Frosty Morning' was inspired by a frosty early morning walk in West Norfolk. Order online here.

The perfect stocking filler this Christmas

Why not give a gift of one of our limited edition ties? The specially crafted silk ties are manufactured for the Alliance by McDade’s, a Glasgow-based family business which has been involved in producing our distinctive ties for almost half a century, having begun with the British Field Sports Society.

Unlike traditional silks, the quality silk used for the Countryside Alliance line is of a higher pick which allows McDade’s to weave in the intricate sporting animal and bird motifs into the fabric. The incredible detail makes our ties easily recognisable on the hunting field, out shooting and at almost any other countryside-related event.
