Simon Hart, who served the Countryside Alliance variously as Press Officer, Director of the Campaign for Hunting, Chief Executive and Chairman has been appointed to the House of Lords in Rishi Sunak’s resignation honours.
Simon stood down as Chairman in 2019 when he was made a Minister. He soon joined the cabinet as Welsh Secretary and then served as Chief Whip from 2022 until last year’s general election. He was originally elected as MP for his home constituency of Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire in 2010. That seat was abolished in 2024 and he stood unsuccessfully for Caerfyrddin in the general election.
Simon is a crucial figure in the Alliance’s history. From his leadership through turbulent years of political battle over the hunting ban, to guiding the Alliance through a period of profound change in the countryside, to steering a route through the political turmoil of Brexit and the last government he has shaped the organisation and served our members tirelessly.
