As the year draws to a close, Giving Tuesday, which this year takes place on Tuesday 2, December, offers a moment to recognise the remarkable community of members, volunteers and donors who make our work possible. Every campaign we run, every voice we amplify and every step forward in defending rural life begins with your support.
Over the past year, you have helped ensure rural voices are heard and respected in Westminster, in the media and across the countryside. You have stood with farmers, supported clearer and fairer firearms licensing, championed British produce and backed our work to protect rural communities.
We have seen the power of standing together. When North East Derbyshire District Council announced plans to ban angling at the much-loved Wingerworth Lido, the community rallied together. Thanks to the determination of local angler James - Big Duff - Duffy, the backing of fellow anglers and support from the Countryside Alliance, their voices were heard loud and clear. It proved how powerful rural communities can be when we unite to defend the places and traditions that mean so much to us all.
But now, the countryside faces some of the most significant challenges in a generation. There are direct threats to hunting, gun ownership, game shooting and wildlife management. The government has already confirmed that a consultation on a trail hunting ban will take place ‘early next year’ and proposals to restrict shotgun ownership are expected in the coming weeks.
That is why this Giving Tuesday we are calling on supporters to help fund the fight for the countryside. Every contribution fuels the work that keeps rural communities resilient and ensures the countryside remains a place where people and wildlife can thrive.

This year has shown how powerful we are when we stand together. As new challenges emerge, your support enables us to keep fighting for the countryside and the future of rural life.
