Alliance at Broadband Summit

The Government held a fixed and mobile superfast broadband not-spot summit this week, following a parliamentary debate on the issue last year led by Lincolnshire MP Matt Warman. The summit aimed to tackle the issue and consider how to address poor coverage across the country, particularly in rural areas.

The summit was attended by a number of broadband providers including BT, Virgin, alternative providers such as Gigaclear and Airwave and rural stakeholders such as ourselves, National Parks England and the CLA. The event, chaired by Minister for the Digital Economy, Ed Vaizey MP (pictured, not at this event), was highly productive and highlighted a number of roadblocks to broadband roll-out, areas for the Government to take action and innovative solutions that could work in the final 5-10% of the country.

A number of action points were noted and the group will continue to meet to ensure action is taken and coverage is improved. Follow our Head of Policy, Sarah Lee, on Twitter @CACampaigns.
