One of Casting for Recovery UK & Ireland's team members, Lottie Weston, an oncology specialist nurse who has previously worked in the breast cancer sphere for many years, ran the Royal Parks Half Marathon on Sunday 8th October to raise funds for the charitable project.
Casting for Recovery UK & Ireland is a charitable programme run by The Countryside Alliance Foundation which offers ladies with breast cancer the opportunity to join us on a free retreat at a beautiful rural venue and try their hand at fly fishing. The project owes its success to a combination of support from a dedicated team of medics, counsellors and fly casting instructor, the gentle movement of fly casting which is a kind of physiotherapy, the beauty of rural Britain and Ireland and the fellowship of joining a retreat with ladies who all understand each other.
On completing the half marathon Lottie commented: "As a nurse volunteering with Casting for Recovery for the past two years I am passionate about the positive impact the weekend retreats have on women's lives including spending time in the beautiful countryside, sharing their experiences and learning fly fishing. I'm very proud to be involved with such a wonderful charity. By running the Royal Parks Half marathon I hope to help Casting for Recovery to continue and grow their brilliant work"
We would like to thank Lottie for all her efforts, every penny she has raised will go directly to our 2018 retreat programme. For more information visit the website at www.castingforrecovery.org.uk or email [email protected]
