Casting for Recovery retreat at Kingennie is a 'reel' success

Thirteen ladies from across England and Scotland gathered at the Forbes of Kingennie Country Resort near Dundee for a Casting for Recovery retreat at the weekend (26-27 September). Each of the ladies has, or as had, breast cancer.

Casting for Recovery UK & Ireland, an innovative charity which is run by The Countryside Alliance Foundation, helps women to overcome the challenges of breast cancer by providing healing fishing retreats in peaceful settings. They learn to fly fish and receive counselling and support with other ladies going through the same experiences.

This residential retreat, the last for 2015, saw the ladies learn how to put together a fly rod, tie on a fly and master the basics of fly casting before each being paired with a local fishing guide (including many of the Kingennie staff) to catch themselves some trout.

On their first night at Kingennie resort owner and legendary angler Mike Forbes welcomed the ladies with a casting demo to introduce them to the beautiful sport. As well as fishing, the weekend also included sessions with our qualified team of counsellors.

Casting for Recovery director Jill Grieve commented: "We were delighted to return to Forbes of Kingennie to host this retreat and our 13 lady participants all enjoyed the experience hugely.

"Forbes of Kingennie combines a beautiful, tranquil location with wonderful food and accommodation so that everyone feels they have been spoiled and had a very special experience.

"We can't thank Mike and Gail Forbes and their team enough for their generous hospitality and for giving the ladies a weekend they will never forget. Casting for Recovery offers a special brand of therapy and Kingennie suits that very well indeed."
