Fishing for Schools - Young Champions Awards

Fishing for Schools is delighted to be holding its Young Champions Awards reception in Parliament on Wednesday 15 November.

Fishing for Schools is one of the Countryside Alliance Foundation's initiatives and offers young people the opportunity to discover the joy of fishing, whilst learning new skills in a fun and proactive way. The charity helps pupils re-engage with education, building their confidence and self-esteem, while at the same time assisting with new qualifications and skills.

Jill Grieve, Director of Casting for Recovery, recognised that Fishing for Schools needed a way of celebrating the young people's achievements. So, on 27 October 2014, among a gaggle excited young people, proud parents, MP's, Lords and other guests, Fishing for Schools held its first Champions Awards reception in Westminster. The event was a huge success which is why we are pleased to be holding it again.

Although the dynamics of the awards has changed we are delighted to be able to award those students who have gained the most from the experience. It is up to each of the schools to elect one champion from their school who best represents what Fishing for Schools is aiming to achieve. The awards are also the perfect occasion to introduce Ministers, MPs and peers to the champions from their constituency.

In addition, Fishing for Schools is proud to announce that it is celebrating its 10th anniversary. To date over 2,000 students have benefited from Fishing for Schools and we are honoured to see the charity go from strength to strength. The Champions Awards is a good reminder of how fantastic our young people are - from any sphere – and helps to demonstrate all that is good about alternative education… and fishing!
