Fly fishing retreat a Spring success in North Yorkshire

The first Casting for Recovery retreat of 2017 was filled with tight lines and laughter at the Coniston Hotel Country Estate and Spa in North Yorkshire at the weekend as 14 ladies who have (or have had) breast cancer participated in our body and mind therapy programme.

The two day retreat saw ladies from across the UK come together to take part in sessions including medical advice, counselling and fly fishing tuition. Casting for Recovery is a unique programme which helps ladies to move forward from breast cancer and our focus is very much on survivorship and healthy lifestyle. Many of the ladies in attendance have already pledged to continue fishing, buoyed up by the fun and laughter of a day on the lake, each one accompanied by their own personal fly fishing guide (all pictured below giving the retreat a thumbs-up). Several trout were caught, including an impressive 4lb brownie that was returned to the Coniston lake.

Our thanks to the whole team at the hotel and estate for your hospitality and for helping to make the retreat such a memorable one for the participants and the staff. Thanks also to the fishing guides who kindly volunteered their time on Sunday and whose generosity was appreciated by the ladies who benefited from their knowledge.

The team will soon be heading to the West of Ireland to deliver a retreat at Mount Falcon Estate at Ballina in County Mayo in late April and we can only hope to emulate the success of Coniston.
