Prince's Countryside Fund forum in London

Countryside Alliance Head of Policy Sarah Lee writes: The Prince's Countryside fund held a Forum in London this week looking at realising the potential and opportunity in rural communities. Lord Curry of Kirkhale, Chairman of The Prince's Countryside Fund, opened the day by saying we need to ensure farming is resilient and how we must all work together to guarantee vibrant rural communities. Lord Curry went on to say that new rural policy needs a holistic approach and all interests, farming, environment and rural communities must work together.

Later in the day the Forum was addressed by HRH The Prince of Wales who spoke about the importance of helping small family farms and upland areas ensuring they are able to thrive in this modern world as the benefits they bring to the countryside cannot be underestimated.

The day was attended by those who have an active interest in the countryside and provided a much needed thoughtful discussion. It was clear that rural communities can make a positive contribution but we must unleash the full potential through collaboration, truly sustainably supply chains, support and training for young people, and improving digital skills. There was a huge amount of passion and inspiration in the room and it was good to be involved.
