The main parties on Digital Communications







The main parties have now launched their manifestos ahead of the General Election on 7th May. We bring you the main points from each one relating to a key part of our own manifesto - digital communication. Read our own manifesto chapter on digital communications here.

Conservative


  • Provide superfast broadband to 95% of UK by 2017

  • Subsidise the cost of installing superfast cable satellite services in remote areas

  • Provide rural areas with near universal superfast broadband by the end of the next Parliament


Green

  • Give BT and other public telecommunications operators an obligation to provide affordable high speed broadband infrastructure to every household and smallbusiness in the UK


Labour

  • Ensure that all parts of country benefit from affordable, high speed broadband by the end of the next Parliament

  • Maximise private sector investment and deliver the mobile infrastructure needed to extend coverage and reduce 'not spots'


Lib Dem

  • Complete the rollout of high-speed broadband to reach almost every household in the UK (99.9%) as well as small businesses in rural and urban areas


UKIP

  • Nothing specified in manifesto
