Wet weather gear for young fishers thanks to Kent Sport grant

A £450 donation from Kent Sport and Sport Directory has bought wellies, coats and other wet weather wear for Fishing for Schools students from the Orchard School, Canterbury

Fishing for Schools (F4S) has received a £450 grant from Kent County Council's Kent Sport project, to provide tents, coats, brollies and boots for young anglers fishing with the charity.

The money comes from Kent Sport partner Sports Directory, based in Dartford, Kent - which is one of the leading educational suppliers of sports equipment in the UK.

Graham Russell of Sport Directory visited Marshside Fishery on Friday (22 March) to attend a Fishing for Schools session for pupils with special educational needs from the Orchard School, Canterbury, and present them with the cheque.

He said: "I chose to donate to Fishing for Schools because I was impressed with the way they are engaging the children with sport. Sports Directory does not sell fishing equipment but we were pleased to be able to make sure the children are warm and dry when they are fishing so they enjoy being involved all the more."

Fishing for Schools instructor Kevin Durman explained that pupils from Orchard School take part in fishing on a Friday afternoon as a reward for good behaviour throughout the week. "They look forward to it all week and are here, rain or shine, every Friday, that's why we needed wet weather gear."

Sophie Ward from Kent Sport added: "I was impressed by the concentration and effort the children put into their fishing, it really seems to offer them calm mindfulness in a beautiful environment."
