about this blogRead moreAt the brink of their third season, John Carter (Honorary Secretary) from the Woolaston Bassets looks back on the pack's second Puppy Show. The pack is still new , and is already supported by over 100 subscribers. For many years Norman Matthews, joint-master and huntsman had dreamt of having his own basset pack and in 2014, the pack was given probationary registration by the MBHA. The country registered to the pack lies by the River Severn and spans a vast area from Ruardean in the Forest of Dean through to Blaenavon, North of Newport to the flats under the New Severn Crossing.
This year's young hounds judged by this year's youngest member
At Woolaston Bassets' second annual Puppy Show in Gloucestershire this summer the young hounds were judged by the youngest member, 10 year old Elliott Pitchford. He was joined by Dr David Rees who has many years' experience with hunting hounds. Together they selected the best of this year's young entry and prizes were presented by local MP The Rt Hon Mark Harper.
The event took place on a gloriously sunny day at The Old Rectory at Woolaston where the kennels are located. Elliott was asked to judge at this year's show in recognition of his commitment to Woolaston Bassets throughout the season. He is one of many young supporters who love running with the hounds in all weathers and who represent the future of this wonderful country sport.
