As we enter – extraordinarily – nineteen years of Fishing for Schools, we have never in that long period compromised. Not on delivery; not on putting young people at the forefront of our thoughts and aspirations; not in any facet of our operation.
Our mantra has always been, rather like that well-known canned salmon – Wild Alaskan, please! Certainly not farmed! – “only the best is good enough”.
That extends to every single area. In all the time we have been in existence the core of what we do has been driven by both our ambassadors and colleagues in the CA – but most vitally, by our coaching team.
These amazing people are our heartbeat.
This is absolutely our key: community – and a tightly knit one. We share advice, discuss, take on board views, admit to mistakes – learning from them openly – listen, and offer opinion.
That cluster of actions, in any forward-thinking initiative, is the key to success. And we are successful.
The need for safeguarding has never been more essential, or thorough; here again we are listening to industry leaders and absorbing all best practice to be the most up-to-the-moment, safe and robust unit we can. Market leaders? Perhaps.
But what does all of that amount to? In essence, the delivery of our unique programme, which strives ever further to meet the needs and drive the excitement of young people in the world of angling.
I have asked each of these brilliant coaches to offer a special message, tip or, well, a something for the newsletter. These are all as varied as the characters they most certainly are and can be enjoyed here.
Last year was fantastic; the coming one will prove even better still... and perhaps, break further new ground in angling education.
I leave you on the cusp of a new year: buoyant, excited and hungry to drive the initiative to great heights.
With all seasonal best wishes and the very brightest of New Years.
All bests,
Charles
