Turning confidence into a qualification

Teachers often tell us about the positive changes they see in their pupils after taking part in Fishing for Schools. 

Here's what one teacher had to say:

“Many of our learners initially approach unfamiliar tasks with a fear of failure. But through hands-on experiences and the opportunity to try new skills, they begin to see what they can achieve. Nervousness turns into excitement, and they return to school with an ‘I can’ attitude.”

Away from the classroom and learning in the outdoors, many young people discover confidence they didn't know they had. They learn new skills, overcome challenges and experience the pride from of achieving something for themselves.

For 19 years, Fishing for Schools has introduced young people to angling and the outdoors, helping them build confidence, develop new skills and engage with learning. Over 4,800 young people across 180 schools have benefitted from time on the bankside, using the countryside as a classroom where confidence grows, learning comes to life and new opportunities are discovered.

Our new Angling and the Countryside Qualification is the next step. Combining practical outdoor learning with classroom-based study, it will give young people the opportunity to work towards an Ofqual-accredited qualification whilst developing their understanding of the countryside, conservation and the natural world.

This autumn, we’re launching the pilot of the Angling and the Countryside qualification. Our team is busy preparing everything needed to make the pilot a success - from developing resources to working with schools and specialist settings.
