Easter weekend remains one of the highlights of the point-to-point season - but in 2026, it also comes at a critical moment for the future of the sport.
Across the Bank Holiday weekend, a packed schedule of meetings will once again bring communities together to enjoy thrilling grassroots racing, catch up with friends and celebrate a much-loved rural tradition. We encourage everyone to pack a picnic, support their local meeting, and be part of what makes point-to-pointing so special.
But this year, we cannot take that future for granted.
Proposals to ban trail hunting pose a direct and serious threat - not only to hunting, but to point-to-pointing itself. Many of our meetings rely on the land, organisation, volunteers and infrastructure provided by local hunts. Remove that support and the knock-on impact on point-to-pointing could be devastating.
Quite simply: if trail hunting is lost, point-to-pointing could be next.
That’s why this Easter weekend is not just about enjoying the sport - it’s about standing up for it.
Speak to friends, family and fellow racegoers - including those who only attend once a year - about the threat to point-to-pointing if trail hunting is banned, and urge them to sign the e-lobby to help protect its future.
The strength of point-to-pointing has always come from its community. Now is the time to show that strength and ensure our sport has a future.
This year, the Easter action kicks off on Good Friday with the Essex & Suffolk fixture at Higham in Suffolk, followed by a busy Saturday featuring multiple meetings with a further five meetings being held on East Monday.
If you’ve never been before, point-to-pointing offers a fantastic day out in the countryside - bring a picnic, enjoy competitive racing, and soak up a unique atmosphere. With catering, bars, betting, trade stands, dog shows and children’s entertainment, there’s something for everyone. It’s also where many future stars - both horses and jockeys - begin their journey.
