Win a day’s shooting worth £3,700 at this year’s Warter Priory Charity Clay Shoot

27 January, 2026

Warter Priory, the world-class shooting estate set in the heart of East Yorkshire, is hosting its annual two-day charity clay shoot on Thursday 14 and Friday 15 May 2026, followed on Saturday 16 May by the extremely popular ‘High Tower Challenge’. That evening there will be the acclaimed ‘Bushbeaters’ Ball, with dancing to the Ordinary Men. All 60 team places for the Clay Shoot on the Thursday and Friday have now been filled, with a waiting list for both days so applications can sadly no longer be accepted, but there is still the hugely popular High Tower Challenge in which to take part on Saturday 16 May.

The High Tower Challenge is open to anyone, regardless of whether they have attended the Clay Shoot during the previous two days or not, as anyone can just turn up on day. The Challenge, which will take place between 9am and 3pm, is to shoot 30 clays that are launched from three High Towers with just 30 cartridges. The entry fee is £50, one can enter as many times as one wants, and cartridges will be available to purchase for those that have not bought their own, with only non-toxic cartridges with biodegradable wads permitted. The prize for the highest score achieved during the day is one gun on a fantastic 500-bird day at Warter Priory, on a date to be agreed by mutual arrangement, worth £3,700.

There will be a BBQ and refreshments available, and it is a marvellous way to spend the day with friends and family in the beautiful surroundings of the Warter Priory Estate, before then dancing the night away to the Ordinary Men at the ‘Bushbeaters’ Ball. Tickets for the Ball are £85 per person and can be obtained from Dorothy Brighton at dottiebrighton@yahoo.com or 07929 937906.

Warter Priory is primarily a shooting estate and to safeguard our field sports, especially in the present political climate, they have again made the Countryside Alliance a joint beneficiary of this year’s Charity Clay Shoot, the other charity being the Special Reconnaissance Regimental Association.  We are incredibly grateful to Warter Priory for their continued support, as all proceeds from the two Clay Shoots, High Tower Challenge and Ball will be split 50:50, with everyone who attends helping support the work of the two charities. We very much hope to see you there.
