Fishing 4 Schools forges new partnership with Charlton Athletic Community Trust

The Fishing 4 Schools Kent team held a session last Tuesday (30 August) that marked a new partnership with Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT).

CACT is well known for its social inclusion work with young people from across London and Kent and has scooped numerous industry awards .

Warren White, who leads the Kent team said: "I was prepared for a high turn-out and on the day 22 young people turned up. These were young people that had travelled from all parts of Kent to be at the event at Shorne Country park , Gravesend, such was the enthusiasm to have a go at fishing.

"The high number of participants made it challenging for the four F4S coaches. But from the start the coaches realised that we had a real lovely group, they were quiet and concentrated in their approach and really progressed in their angling as the day went on.

"Because of the number of participants, they took turns in fishing while others sat patiently taking their turn and getting in important water breaks as the weather was really hot.

"Every young person that attended the event caught fish - roach, rudd, tench, perch and that special fish the Crucian carp. And at the end of the event many of the participants asked when they could come fishing again, so we are already arranging another similar event at Grove Farm Fishery at Hadlow College, for next year. A great day was had by all!"

And Terry Peart of CACT said: "The young people had a brilliant time. Fishing really works as an activity for us. It allows the young people to help each other in a relaxing environment and is very useful for aiding social networking and raising self-esteem among the group.

"We are very grateful to the F4S team for a fabulous day!"
