Representatives of the Kimblewick Hunt were invited to visit The Ebony Horse Club

Representatives of the Kimblewick Hunt were invited to visit The Ebony Horse Club, the inner-city riding school in Brixton on Thursday, 3rd May.



Invited by patron Charlotte Steele, over 100 guests were present to hear joint-master Andrew Sallis introduce three couple of hounds and give a great insight into hunting life. The guests including patrons, sponsors, staff, parents and many "fascinated and inquisitive children", were all treated to a hornblowing demonstration as well as being given the opportunity to mingle with the hounds.

"It was a beautiful evening at The Ebony Horse Club, which teaches children from Brixton - many of whom are from disadvantaged homes and could otherwise be lured into gangs - to ride and care for ponies," explained Andrew Sallis MFH.

"These skills and responsibilities engender a remarkable sense of community and pride. We watched lessons and displays beforehand and saw the children riding with confidence on brilliant ponies in fine condition."

Polly Portwin, Countryside Alliance Head of Hunting said: "It was wonderful to watch the children make connections with the hounds and ask sensible and logical questions about hunting. Educating people from all walks of life and explaining how hunts operate is vital to ensuring there is a positive future for hunting."

The Kimblewick Hunt has invited the children to visit their kennels later in the year and it is hoped some may even get the opportunity to experience a day out with hounds.
