The Countryside Alliance Foundation nets fly fishing star

The Countryside Alliance Foundation is delighted to announce that Sue Shaw, a former England Ladies Fly Fishing team captain, has joined the charity as its new Projects Co-ordinator. Sue will join the team to work across charitable projects including Casting for Recovery and Fishing 4 Schools, primarily to promote fishing's role in education and therapy in the countryside.

Sue has fished for 37 years and has wide connections in the fishing world, having previously worked at Bauer Media and David Hall Publishing, publishers of many fishing titles. Sue has also been part of the England Ladies Fly Fishing Association gaining 14 England Caps and has also captained the team and twice been International President. In addition to this work Sue is also a co-founder of Casting for Recovery UK & Ireland, the breast cancer fly fishing project run by The Countryside Alliance, which was until 2015 an independent charity of its own.

Sue's role will be wide-ranging when she joins the charity in January 2017. She will work on Casting for Recovery UK & Ireland and will also support Charles Jardine's work on Fishing 4 Schools.

The Countryside Alliance Foundation's Jill Grieve commented: "This is an exciting appointment. Sue has a natural warmth and enthusiasm, as well as a wealth of experience, which will be perfectly suited to this frontline role. She will inspire, guide and support those taking part in our charitable projects both as a teacher and as a lifelong enthusiast. Having known Sue for a number of years through Casting for Recovery I think this role is an excellent fit for her skills. I look forward to working closely with Sue in developing and expanding our charitable work."

Sue Shaw said: "I am thrilled and honoured to be joining the Countryside Alliance Foundation team at such an exciting time and aim to use my skills, honed over the last 10 years, to promote the countryside and its therapeutic effect to both Casting for Recovery and Fishing 4 Schools."
