TV chef Dudley Newbury hosts 'Game-to-Eat' night

The Countryside Alliance is holding a Game-to-Eat night for Assembly Members (AMs) at The Pierhead, Cardiff Bay on Tuesday, 26 November as part of its promotion for increasing the popularity of game.

Sponsored by a cross-party group of AMs, to include the deputy presiding officer David Melding, Llyr Gruffydd, William Powell, and Joyce Watson, the politicians will have the opportunity to pick up some great cooking tips and enjoy a feast of game canapés in the company of Wales' finest chefs and hoteliers from across the principality.

S4C chef Dudley Newbury will host the cooking demonstration and is supported by the resident team, Charlton House Caterers, who will be preparing a feast of delicious game canapés throughout the night.

The evening has been generously supported by the National Gamekeepers' Organisation (NGO) and Rhug Estate, Corwen.

Former rugby international Gareth Edwards, who is a patron of the NGO, said: "Game certainly ticks all the boxes for me, whether pheasant, partridge, rabbit, grouse, duck or venison.

"It is delicious to eat, and quick and easy to prepare. It's healthy, being low in fat and high in protein. Game is often local and is seasonal, which is a big plus for many TV chefs, discerning restaurant customers and home cooks.

"Welsh game also comes served with a very big slice of countryside conservation work, supporting in the process huge numbers of rural jobs, many in isolated parts of Wales. Indeed research shows shooting to be worth about £73 million a year to the Welsh economy and provides more than 2,600 full-time jobs. Gamekeepers are some of the real heroes of Welsh conservation."

The Game-to-Eat campaign, run by the Countryside Alliance, is now in its 13th year.

Countryside Alliance director for Wales Rachel Evans said: "I am delighted to be able to hold this event and to be able to promote wonderful Welsh Game to those who work the corridors of power in Cardiff Bay.

"Game is sometimes overlooked and I am hoping that the evening will show how easy it is to prepare and cook, and can provide nutritious, low cost meals for the family as well as having its place at the table of some of Wales's finest dinning places."

The Game-to-Eat campaign is a key part of the Countryside Alliance's campaigning work and is dedicated to promoting the produce of our shoots, game dealers, butchers and farm shops.

We have sent out over 50,000 recipe leaflets since the start of the season in August this year containing over 100 recipe ideas.
