West Midlands Flight Path Protection Team - can you help?

The Flight Path Protection team at Birmingham Airport has let us know it is seeking the help of local residents to protect the security of the flights paths. The team's PC Powell says: "People who live and work beneath the busy flight paths can be the extra eyes and ears to assist us in keeping flights in and out of the airport safe.

"By being vigilant and reporting anything suspicious they will be helping to minimize the opportunity for terrorist-related incidents. Whilst there is no information to suggest that flights from Birmingham Airport are particularly vulnerable, the national aviation threat assessment is categorized as 'severe' so we must remain alert to potential dangers."

The team are keen to enlist to the Community Engagement Register anyone who is regularly out and about in their patrol area.

They can email personal details to: [email protected] or telephone 0121 712 6172.

PC Powell adds: "We will keep you up-to-date with any developments affecting flight path security and information about how you can support us. All major British airports have a community register and members details are held on a secure system and not passed to anyone else."
