Countryside Alliance welcomes firearms licensing amendments

A number of firearms licensing amendments come into force today [2 May 2017] through the Policing and Crime Act 2017. The amendments are aimed at closing loopholes, and improving definitions and clarity.

Improvements to the legislation regarding 'lending' firearms and the legislation to move expanding ammunition back to Section 1 are two amendments which are of importance to Countryside Alliance .

A spokesman for the Countryside Alliance said: "The Countryside Alliance has long called for these changes and it is fulfilling to see them enacted. These firearms licensing amendments are welcomed by all the shooting community and shows that improvements to the system can be made.

"The commencement of the other relevant measures will be subject to decisions by Ministers after the General Election."

If any members have any enquiries regarding the amendments please get in touch [email protected].

*Please note that the extension of firearms certificates (Section 133) has not commenced yet.
